We are aware of the building works currently taking place in the bandstand gardens opposite the theatre and have some updates to share in relation to this.
The Bandstand in Pier Gardens
Whilst we are unsure as to why the bandstand itself is currently roped off (we have asked GYBC for clarification), the building works that are taking place are part of a council owned project to provide tennis table facilities to the general public. We have questioned whether the location of these tables is correct given the conservation area status, but warmly welcome the investment into Gorleston.
The project itself was funded from the EXPERIENCE project at Interreg Europe, which also includes provision of a beach wheelchair and new self serve kiosk to house this. More details can be found in the GYBC press release.
The council have also invested into the lighting around the gardens to install columns more in keeping with the style of the area and these will shortly be completed with plans to paint the columns black and replace the lighting heads themselves with new energy efficient LED lamps.
More updates as we get them ...
